  1. 1. General description of the educational institution.

Founder of the educational institution:  SIA “TIBETAN HEALING CENTER”.

TIBETAN HEALING Learning Center was established in 2009 as the center for training yoga specialists in Latvia. TIBETAN HEALING Learning Center is the first educational institution in EU, which has state recognised authorities to educate in yoga specialist’s profession.

TIBETAN HEALING Learning Center is a vocational educational institution for adults implementing the following educational programs: 

  1. Professional enhancement program – Yoga Therapy (360 hours),
  2. 2. Continuing education program – Yoga Specialist (1080 hours).
  1. 2. Main objectives of activity of the educational institution (the priorities and results of the previous training years).

At the time of commencing its activity, the priorities of the Learning Center were as follows:

  1. To ensure the availability of professional programs of Yoga Specialist and Yoga Therapy for students,
  2. To ensure training of new teachers and personnel,
  3. To maintain specific knowledge necessary for the Learning Center and to enhance the competitive ability of the students studying the professional programs on the local and international job markets.

The above objectives have been successfully achieved. Attraction of new lecturers and continuous lectures of guest lecturers, as well as visits of specialists from abroad ensures the world level studies for the students. Thanks to TIBETAN HEALING CENTER, two new occupations have been registered with the Classification of Occupations - Yoga Specialist and Yoga Master, as well as the standards for these occupations have been approved, on which the qualification practice is based.

  1. 3. Performance of the previous assessment period recommendations.

All the recommendations received in the previous assessment period has been implemented. The Learning Center has developed the quality management system and the guidelines. The principles of evaluation of educational achievements has been improved, as well as the evaluation system with the validation of the evaluation criteria has been developed. Considering the recommendations, the system of the curriculum implementation control and the continuous planning of activities in each study subject has been implemented, thus creating a permanent work system. The administration of the Learning Center created a teachers council, thus motivating the teachers for the individual work and development of the study process. This improved the process of studies and its results.

  1. 4. Performance of the educational institution and its evaluation according to quality assessment criteria.

4.1. Curriculum content – study programs implemented by the educational institution.

The educational institution implements two study programs:

  • The continuing education program – Yoga Specialist, duration of studies – 1080 hours
  • The professional enhancement program – Yoga Therapy, duration of studies – 360 hours.

The process of studies in the educational institution is implemented within the licensed programs. The professional content of the study programs ensures the conformity of the knowledge, skills and practice of the students to the basic requirements of the occupational standards.  A plan of distribution of the educational content has been elaborated for the teachers, the acquisition of the education content is being purposefully planned, providing for the differentiation and individualisation of the training activity. The teachers are mutually cooperating in the improvement of the study programs.  The lesson schedule is elaborated for the whole study period, considering the succession and interaction of the study subjects; it is approved and available for the teachers and the students. The teachers and the students are timely informed about any changes in the lesson schedule.

The teaches of the Learning Center are involved in the methodological work of the elaboration of the study programs. Study programs are implemented in the students’ life and health friendly conditions. The management of the educational institution ensures the students and the teachers with all necessary study books, training assets, handouts, equipment and facilities. The educational institution supports the teachers by providing the necessary information and sources required in the implementation of the study programs, the management of the educational institution regularly cooperates with the teachers in the implementation of the study programs and in updating and improvement of the study subjects content.

The study programs are in line with the occupational standard requirements. The study programs are upgraded based on recommendations of the industry association and in accordance with the applicable legislation.

4.2. Teaching and learning

4.2.1. Teaching quality

The educational institution has elaborated the system of evaluation of the students’ results and is analysing the study process regularly. The management has elaborated the criteria of evaluation of the teachers’ work and evaluates the teacher’s work regularly by interviewing and polling the studies, as well as by visiting the lectures. The class registers are maintained in accordance with applicable requirements. The management of the educational institution controls the quality of filling out the class registers on a regular basis. The students are accounted and registered in accordance with legislative requirements.

The objectives of lectures in the study subjects are clear and understandable for all the students. The objectives and the expected results of each lecture are introduced to the students. The curriculum is structured.  For the achievement of the objectives set for a lecture, the teachers use all available sources and assess their appropriateness for the development of the students and advancement of the study process.   A wide range of training methods is used during the lectures, considering the individual abilities of each student, their personal development needs, the requirements of the educational program and the specifics of a study subject. 

During the study process, the teachers ensure coherence of the study process with the real life and today’s topical issues, promoting social cooperation and initiative, loyalty and patriotism. In the study process, the teachers are responsible in using information, study tools and materials, in choosing study methods, they also contribute to the development of free thinking and discretion of the students, responsibility, diligence, courage, justice, wisdom, kindness, compassion, equability of mind, modesty, solidarity, honesty and tolerance. 

The students are provided with the possibility to visit enterprises corresponding to the specifics of the study programs. The educational institution has strictly established requirements for the enrolment and withdrawing of students.

All the practical works within all study programs are provided with descriptions, the students are informed about the practical assignments and the process of their execution. The educational institution fully provides for the execution of practical studies, which correspond to real situation in the job market. The management of the Learning Center pays great attention to the improvement of material and technical resources of the studies. 

The qualification practice is organised in accordance with applicable Latvian legislation - trilateral agreements are signed with cooperation partners on the study practice before the commencement of the practice, the students are ensured with practice places.  The practice journals are filled out in accordance with the Methodology for Filling out the Practice Journal. Before the qualification practice, the students are re-instructed in labour safety at a workplace and the educational institution makes an order by which a head of practice is elected, who is responsible for the high quality practice process.

     The qualification practice is performed in accordance with a program and tasks designed within the continuing education program. Before commencing of the practice, the students receive the practice program and the tasks. Upon completion, the qualification practice is evaluated, assessing the students’ experience acquired and works performed during the practice. 

The educational institution has signed cooperation agreement with the industry representatives.

The students of the Yoga Specialist program pass the practice in the companies as follows:  International Yoga Healing Federation, Baltic Yoga Federation, Latvian Federation of Professional Yoga, International Yoga Therapy and Yoga Specialists Association or TIBETAN HEALING CENTER, which are the cooperation partners of the Learning Center in various spheres and activities. It ensures work places for the students upon completion of the studies, or, if a student demonstrate good results, already during the qualification practice.

4.2.2. Learning quality

The students of the educational institution are being systematically informed about the requirements of the academic work.  The students understand the above requirements. The students are informed about various events related to the industry specifics.

During the studies, the students are purposeful, responsible, motivated for studies, they regularly use the resources available in the educational institution to achieve the study goals. They use a responsible approach towards the studies, plan and evaluate their work, participate in the study process. Since there are no more than 3 classes per week, the students do not miss classes without a reasonable excuse. Missed classes are accounted. There is an individual work performed with each students.

4.2.3. Evaluation as a part of the study process.

The teachers of the educational institution observe the principles and the procedures of evaluation of educational achievements defined in the state. The educational institution applies the uniform requirements for  composition of test works and evaluation of educational achievements, which are strictly obeyed by all the teachers.  The forms and methodological approaches of evaluation correspond to the specifics of the study subjects. The students and the teachers are informed about the requirements of the educational institution regarding the evaluation of the students’ knowledge. The educational achievements of the students are being regularly evaluated on methodological and pedagogical meetings.

The students are being timely informed about the test works planned as well as about the requirements of such tests and the procedure of evaluation.  The Procedure for Evaluation of Knowledge is elaborated, as well as the evaluation criteria for each study subject are defined. The analysis of the educational achievements is used in order to define further objectives and to improve the study process.

The process of studies includes also a self-assessment or a mutual assessment by the students, obeying the individual abilities of each student and the principles of tolerance.

There are the uniform requirements for the evaluation of practical works and the qualification practice.  The industry association is being regularly involved in the evaluation of the qualification practice. The analysis of the performance and the achievements of the practice, as well as the summarizing of the proposals expressed is carried out in cooperation with employers. 

The procedure for organising and documenting of professional qualification examinations (PQE) is elaborated.  The PQE are planned in a timely manner in accordance with the requirements of applicable legislation. The students are being timely informed about the PQE program, the evaluation criteria and other requirements.

The educational institution has suitable premises, technical resources, equipment, tools and materials necessary for organising of PQE.

The composition of the PQE committee corresponds to the requirements of applicable legislation.   There is a database of persons, which can be included in the PQE committee.

            The documents of PQE are made in accordance with the requirements of applicable legislation. The content of PQE is elaborated and analysed by a working group consisting the industry representatives. There is close cooperation with the representatives of the PQE committee in the improvement of the PQE content and introducing of proposals for each next PQE.

4.3. Achievements of the students.

4.3.1. Achievements of the students in their everyday work.

The educational institution is regularly assessing the achievements of the students in their daily work. The assessment is summarized and use for the defining of further objectives of the study process. If necessary, changes are made in the planning of the study material based on the educational achievements of each group and each student. The assessment of the educational achievements is reflected in the Study Record Log, as well as the final assessment in the study subject is summarized in according with the requirements of applicable legislation. Since 2010, the number of students graduated in the continuing education program Yoga Specialist is 111 students.

The students experience more problems with the acquisition of the theoretical studies. To ensure that the educational content is easily comprehensible and understandable for the students, the educational institution has elaborated various well-structured methodological materials. 
    The evaluation of the qualification practice for all the students is “tested”. The involved industry association evaluates the educational achievements of the students each year.

    4.3.2. Achievements of the students in the state examinations
   The achievements of the students in the continuing education program Yoga Specialist:

The achievements of the students on passing PQE are slightly higher than the achievements in their daily work, which means that the system of evaluation of the educational institution is non-biased and corresponds to the industry requirements. 

4.4. Support rendered to the students

4.4.1. Psychological and socially-pedagogical support.

The pedagogical personnel of the educational institution is motivated to work with each student and consults with the management of the educational institution regarding the necessary support to a student. Each class is organised in accordance with the basic concepts of the on the Eastern philosophy, including compassion, tolerance, mutual understanding and understanding of the fellow human beings. Each class is focused on accepting of the fellow human beings, self-accepting. Classes are positively oriented and popularize the healthy lifestyle. The participants of the educational process are adults only.

4.4.2. Ensuring of safety for students (security and labour safety)

      The educational institution has elaborated the following internal regulations: the code of conduct, the safety regulations (safety in classes etc., electrical safety, first aid rendering etc.), the escape plan is available and easily accessible in the study premises and workshops, as well as the visual information means are placed in accordance with fire safety requirements.    Instructing of the students on the safety requirements are registered in the Study Record Log. There is the fire safety equipment and tools. The procedure in case of trauma and sudden disease is elaborated. There are first aid kits. The personnel of the Learning Center is educated in the first aid rendering and knows how to act in case of emergency.

4.4.6. Support for the students with special needs.

            The educational institution is suitable for students with special needs. If an applicant with special needs would like to study, the educational institution can adjust the studies for the applicant. 

           

            4.5. Environment of the educational institution.

            4.5.1. Micro-climate

            The educational institution cares about the creation and maintenance of its image, keeps the existing traditions and introduces the new ones in accordance with the Eastern philosophy.   There are democratically elaborated Code of Conduct and work arrangements obeyed by all the students.  The students and the personnel are equal regardless of their religious identity and social state.   As the educational institution often invites guest lecturers from different countries, the individual peculiarities, linguistic, cultural and socially-emotional differences, as well different abilities and special needs are strictly obeyed.  The principle of equal treatment is obeyed within the educational institution, conflicts, if any, are solved in a timely and honest manner.  The mechanism for conflict solving is elaborated (a book of complaints and suggestions etc.).

            The management of the educational institution and the students are mutually cooperating, the relations are guided by goodwill and mutual respect. The management and the personnel of the educational institution renders all kind of support to new employees and students in their inclusion into the life of the educational institution.

            The personnel obeys political neutrality during the study process, is loyal to the Republic of Latvia and Latvian Constitution. They also adhere to the principles of pedagogical and professional ethics, human rights, civic consciousness and humanism,  as well as avoid discrediting the educational institution and the state by their word or deed. The personnel and the students are acting in accordance with the universal human and democratic values and support their acquisition, as well as contribute to the abidance of such values within the educational institution.

            4.5.2. Physical environment and its availability.

            The study programs are implemented in the students’ life and health friendly conditions. The area of the study premises, as well as their technical equipment meets the requirements of construction, safety and hygiene, which is approved by the inspections made by responsible institutions. 

            The sanitary and engineering conditions (lighting, temperature, cleaning etc.I in the premises of the educational institution is proper and allows to maintain the study process.  The responsible controlling institutions have approved correspondence with the safety demands. There is a logbook for registration of the inspections made by the controlling institutions, the inspection documentation is available.  

            The educational institution promotes the availability of education for everyone. The educational institution ensures the efficient use of resources and acts in an environment-friendly manner. 

            The premises of the educational institution are clean, tidy and safe, their condition is aesthetically good.        

The educational institution is located in a beautiful place at the shore of a lake. The environment is being kept up and is aesthetically equipped. The territory of the educational institution and its functional zones are landscaped and equipped. The personnel and the students are provided with the possibility to stay in a safe and aesthetic environment outside the study process.

4.6. Resources of the educational institution.

4.6.1. Equipment, material and technical resources.

The educational institution has all the premises necessary for the implementation of the study program. The arrangement and the area of the premises is suitable for the specifics of the study program and the number of students, the occupation of premises is being planned. 

The lease agreement for the required buildings and premises corresponds to the process of the educational program implementation. The educational institution is aware of its cooperation partners, the corresponding agreement is signed on organising of studies outside the educational institution. The procedure for using the premises has been elaborated, it is properly obeyed and updated.

      The training assets corresponds to the educational program and to the tendencies of the industry development, their choice is reasonable and required. Training assets are regularly replenished and supplemented. There are textbooks and/or training assets available that meet the specifics of the educational institution.  The choice of fhe textbooks and training assets is reasonable. In accordance with the specifics and the manner of acquisition of the studies there are information and communication technologies, which are updated in line with the industry specifics. All technical resources are in a good working condition and are safe to use. The technical resources and learning equipment is being regularly maintained, repaired and kept in good order. The management of the educational institution takes care of purchasing the literature corresponding to the specifics of the study program and ensures the availability of the study literature and accounting devices for the students.

      4.6.2. Personnel resources

      The educational institution has the personnel necessary for the implementation of the study program. The teachers have the education required by applicable legislation and necessary for the implementation of the study program.

      The management of the educational institution promotes and supports the improvement of professional competence of the teachers in accordance with the study subjects and the sphere. There is a plan for improvement of professional competence of the teachers, which is being updated each year. The evaluation of the quality of the teachers’ work is promoted as one of the criteria characterising the professional competence of the teachers.  The teachers acquire knowledge, skills and experience in various industry-related courses, seminars etc.

      The teachers are actively participating in the methodological committee and pedagogical meetings. The teachers are actively applying the information acquired in the activities related to their pedagogical work in improving and updating the study process.

      The personnel respects the universal human and democratic values, obeys the ethic norms. The personnel is loyal to the Republic of Latvia and its Constitution, obeys a political and religious neutrality, avoids to discredit the educational institution and the state by their word or deed.

4.7. Arrangement and management of the work of the educational institution, quality maintenance.

4.7.1. Self-assessment of the work of the educational institution and planning of its development.

The self-assessment system is clearly structured and purposefully planned. The self-assessment reports are systematic, they cover all spheres of activity of the educational institution.  The employees are aware of the self-assessment system and involved in the self-assessment process. The self-assessment is unbiased and reasonable. The personnel uses the facts stated in the self-assessment in the planning of the further activity.

There is a strategic plan elaborated for the educational institution, as well as a plan of activity for the year and the report on the last year achievements. The documents regarding the development planning have logical structure, they are comprehensible and clear. The development planning is included in the system of planning the activity of the educational institution.

4.7.2. The activity of the management of the educational institution, personnel management.

The educational institution has a defined organisational structure, which covers al the spheres of activity of the educational institution. The competence of each manager is clearly defined.

The documents of the educational institution meet the requirements for elaboration of documentation and are arranged in accordance with the nomenclature of the educational institution.

The educational institution has all mandatory documents necessary for the organisation of the educational process. There are the descriptions of job patterns and the employment agreements are signed.

The management of the educational institution obeys the principles of pedagogical and professional ethics, the human rights and the norms of the humanism, as well as keep the political and religious neutrality and avoid discrediting the educational institution and the state by their deed and word, promote the universal human and democratic values, as well as the loyalty to the Republic of Latvia and its Constitution among the students and the personnel.

The director of the educational institution, in cooperation with its founder, organizes and manages the activity of the educational institution, delegates responsibilities and controls the execution of such. The meeting of the educational institution are planned and regularly organised, all the meeting are documented.  The management ensures the exchange of information on the decisions made and their execution. The management introduces new trends promoting the activity of the educational institution and its quality culture. 

The methodological activity is organised on a systematic basis in accordance with the plan of activity of the educational institution. There is a methodological committee, which controls its activity.

In cooperation with and with participation of other institutions in the implementation of various projects, the management takes care of promoting a diverse development of the students, forming of relations and obeying the students’ rights.

The educational institution is working in accordance with the policy. The policy covers all the spheres of activity. The management has planned the visiting hours. If necessary, the management accepts visitors outside the defined visiting hours.

The management informs on the procedure of submitting applications, on the students’ rights to receive a reasonable explanation on the suitability of information, study materials and methods implemented during the study process for the development of the students.

4.7.3. Cooperation of the educational institution with other institutions.

The educational institution is systematically cooperating with its founder, promoting its activity. The cooperation with state institutions, non-state organisations, employers and the industry association is organised systematically. 

The educational institution makes steps for promoting of the brand recognition in the society and for the adherence of the students to their educational institution.

  1. 5. Other achievements (important or specific for the educational institution).

The Learning Center has hosted a big number of world-class guest lecturers, who shared their knowledge and competence with the students, providing them with not only a theoretical, but also practical basis of knowledge and skills, thus improving the professional qualities of the students and enhancing the efficiency of the study process. The educational institution has received acknowledgements of the necessity of the study program and its high quality from many states and institutions. In 2009, commencing the study program, the Learning Center SIA „TIBETAN HEALING mācību centrs” implemented it with the cooperation with the International Yoga Healing Federation, Baltic Yoga Federation and Latvian Federation of Professional Yoga.  During the process of studies, the cooperation agreements were signed with the International Yoga Therapy and Yoga Specialists Association  on the management of the study program Yoga Specialist,  as well as on the provision with a working place upon completion of the study program. TIBETAN HEALING CENTER (hereinafter the THLC) established a branch in Cyprus - TIBETAN HEALING CENTER, LTD, where THLC is planning to organize the studies in the programs of Yoga Specials and Yoga Master, as well as the EIROPEAN ACADEMY OF TIBETAN MEDICINE AND YOGA and the ACADEMY OF HOLISTIC MEDICINE was established and registered in Germany, where  HTHLC is planning to participate in organising and carrying out the studies within the bachelor’s and master’s programs. The graduates who acquired education in Latvia can continue their studies in any of the two higher education institutions, improving their professional qualification and introducing themselves in the international job market.

  1. 6. Further development (based on the conclusions of the self-assessment)

The Learning Center is planning to take certain stems for the increasing of its competitive ability, enhancing the level of professional education of the students and getting recognized on local and international markets. The educational institution also has certain plans in elaboration of new and improvement of the existing study programs. THLC is planning to develop and implement its study programs not only in Latvia, but also in other European states, ensuring high quality studies for all interested students.  The educational institutions plans to start the implementation of the higher education programs, providing the students with the possibilities to enhance their knowledge and to approve their position in the Latvian work market, as well as to attest their competitiveness in the European market as well.
